The LFAX fax server solution for corporate
fax systems
|
|
LFax Fax Server is a complete solution
for automatic fax transmission and reception on
Windows, Linux and Unix operating systems. The
LFAX system comprises a Server software,
that runs on Unix, Linux and Windows NT/2000/XP/2003,
and a Client software that runs
on any version of Windows (95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP/2003).
By using the LFAX software, one is able to centralize,
distribute and manage all the company fax messages
from a single computer, still allowing every workstation
or terminal to send and receive fax.

The LFAX Client for Windows has two applications:
- LFAX Printer Driver, that enables
any desktop application such as Word and Excel
to send fax messages by using a print command.
- LFAX Fax Manager that manages
the transmission queue and received fax messages,
which can be viewed, printed or distributed
by e-mail.

Fax transmission as simple as printing
|
|
A document created in any Windows or Unix application
is sent by using a print command. Printing the
document and dialing in the convencional fax machine
is not necessary any more.
When installed on Windows, the LFax printer
driver is an extra option in the list
of printers on the system. To fax a document,
the user chooses the usual printing command in
the application and selects the LFax printer as
the destination printer. A dialog box will be
displayed asking for the recipient fax number.
The user can then open a personal or a workgroup
phone book to select one or more fax numbers.
The document owner is informed about the result
of a transmission through a popup window on the
fax client or by an e-mail notification.
On Unix dumb terminals, the transmission of fax
messages is accomplished by means of a shell command
line or by using the LFax menu interface. The
LFax API interface can be used
to integrate the LFax to other applications such
as databases, ERP and CRM applications.

Fax reception in a fax mail box, routed to
printer or to e-mail
|
|
The incoming fax messages are received and distributed
automatically to users' fax mail boxes, from where
they can be viewed, printed and routed to e-mail.
Fax messages can be sent to e-mail as attachments
in different formats (PDF, HTML, JPEG, TIFF or
GIF). Alternatively all incoming faxes can be
printed upon reception.
One or more users can be defined as "fax
receivers" in order to access all fax messages.
Then they can forward fax messages to other users
as a fax message or as an e-mail attachment. Ordinary
users will have access only to their reception
fax list, so that a fax secure policy can be implemented
in the organization.

|
LFAX system administration and fax management
|
|
All fax messages are available for all users
on any workstation in the network according to
the user permission. Access will only be granted
to permitted users.
LFax Manager provides complete
control about the fax transmission and reception
status so that electronic documents are trackable.
Received and sent fax messages are saved automatically
along with log files containing the user name,
date/hour of an event and transmission or reception
status. Detailed information about all connections
and their status are saved, such as completed
or interrupted transmissions/receptions, whether
they were successful transmitted or if the line
was busy, number of retrials, etc.
LFax Manager has a Windows interface
and a menu interface for Unix dumb terminals.
A shell command line interface is also availabe.

Least cost routing in wide area networks (WANs)
|
|
In wide area networks (WANs), where more than
one LFAX server is installed on networked machines,
a fax is transmitted by the machine that uses
the lowest tariff.
For example, if there is a machine in New York
and another one in Los Angeles, a fax sent from
NY to an addressee in LA will be transmitted through
the network from NY to LA and this one will dial
to the recipient using local tariff.
